About Us
The Mountain Goat Wanderers began in 2005. They were set up as a bit of fun for my now brother-in law’s stag party, which was held at a rugby sevens tournament hosted by the most hospitable Slough RFC
I chose the name Mountain Goat Wanderers because; firstly my brother in-law has a thing about goats! Secondly, Wanderers was added, because we would have no home and would have to play ‘away’ all of the time. Last but not least I added the Mountain bit because Goat Wanderers sounded rubbish and we needed to have a memorable name to match the kit we would be wearing. It soon became apparent that the MGWs would have to rely on their prowess for having a good time and wearing garish kit rather than their ability to win matches and managed in 2005 to take the Slough RFC clubhouse by storm.
Equal success in the clubhouse occurred in 2006 and this was mirrored by the MGWs managing to reach the semis of the plate competition. We made even more friends this year, of special note the Kenyan Exiles
2007 was a strange year for the Goats. Organisation of the 2007 team and design of the kit, which incidentally has been the best to date was well underway when I received some devastating news. I had been diagnosed with metastatic testicular cancer. Anyway the show had to go on… The 2007 event was for Richard, a friend of mine as it was to be his stag party and I was the best man. Although I couldn’t take part to as great an extent as I would have wished, 2007 turned out to be the best year, off the field at least for the now slightly famous MGWs.
